Becky Swimming Teacher

Favourite stroke: Breaststroke

Best Swimming Achievement: Competing in the 2008 Olympic trials & winning a bronze national medal for 200m Breaststroke.

Most memorable teaching experience: Meeting one of my swimmers for the first time when she was 4 and nervous; and then coaching her all the way up to club standard.

Best thing about my job: Having the ability to teach a life skill to so many children is amazing! I love being involved in a swimmer’s progression, from meeting them as young as 6 weeks old and taking them all the way through to competition standard!

My favourite thing to do away from the pool: I love to practice my mermaid swimming, spending time with animals and eating chocolate.

Best Swimming Achievement:
Competing in the 2008 Olympic Trials for 100m butterfly and being part of the winning team in the County Championships the same year.

Most memorable teaching experience: When I first started assisting at the age of 16, I managed to turn a very nervous boy into a very confident swimmer.

Best thing about my job: I love being able to pass on all my knowledge and experience from my swimming days. It makes me happy to see our club swimmers using the same drills and techniques which I used and being successful.

My favourite thing to do away from the pool: Studying for my PhD in Law.

Best Swimming Achievement: Teaching myself to swim at the age of 30. I didn’t want to be a parent who couldn’t swim anymore so I was determined to learn all four strokes and not embarrass my competitive daughters!

Most memorable teaching experience: Being selected to coach the Lancashire team.

Best thing about my job: I’ve seen my daughters reach a very high level in the sport. I love being right at the start of someone’s swimming journey and ensuring every swimmer is smiling during my lessons!

My favourite thing to do away from the pool: Spoiling my daughter (and now boss).

Best Swimming Achievement: Turning my hobby into my job and becoming a swimming teacher.

Most memorable teaching experience: Quite a few to date, from teaching some of my swimmers from 10 weeks old and following their journey through as they progress onwards and upwards, which made me feel very proud; to teaching a 17-year-old boy how to swim, so his parents would let him go on his first ‘lads’ holiday.

Best thing about my job: Teaching children a very important life skill, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the water, to have fun and not be afraid. To watch nervous children overcome their fears.

My favourite thing to do away from the pool: Spending time with my husband, two children, family and friends, and running.

Best thing about my job: Seeing the children progress; it’s an overwhelming feeling of joy and proudness!

My favourite thing to do away from the pool: Ride my horse in the Saddleworth countryside!

Best swimming achievement: Feeling proud when teaching children and adults to swim and knowing I am teaching them a life skill.

Most memorable teaching experience: Watching one of my first swimmers progress from a non swimmer, scared of the water, to swim independently and achieve their 400m Distance Award!

Best thing about my job: Watching people enjoy their swimming lessons and knowing I am doing something good.

My favourite thing to do away from the pool: spending time with friends and family and long walks with my dog Pedro.

Best thing about my job: Seeing swimmers go from having no confidence and not enjoying swimming to having a smile on their face and enjoying every minute of their swimming lesson
